The Greater Promise

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. - Jeremiah 29:11

Sounds familiar, right?

We have often heard preachings about Jeremiah 29:11 and how God's plan for us is to give us hope and a future. We have had this message quoted on many pulpits, echoed by our favorite preachers, and posted in colorful images across different social platforms that it has been so engraved in us as if this was the ultimate promise.

However, as I was meditating on Jeremiah 29, I realized that the "future" referred to in this verse is just the bonus, the freebie, the excess, the overflow. If we were to read a few verses down the line there is a greater promise buried in this chapter, oftentimes, overlooked.

I will be found by you, declares the Lord - excerpt from Jeremiah 29:14

It's astounding, regardless of how many times I think about it, read it, or hear it.

To know that I can seek God and find Him. The only requirement is that I should seek Him with all of my heart.

You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart. - Jeremiah 29:13

To find God surpasses all and every other promises for to find God is to find everything.

As I contemplate this, I am once again reminded of the same question that David raised eons ago, "Who am I, Lord?"

Who are we that the God of the universe would allow us to find Him, know Him, and tabernacle with Him? Surely, there is nothing more extravagant than this.

I would like to end this with a poem that I wrote:

Anong pag-ibig pa kaya ang mas dakila

sa pag-iibigan natin Sinta?

Sa pag-ibig ng Diyos ng langit at lupa

sa akin na isa lamang duhka?

Wala na nga,

wala!
